Block Paving:
If your new block paving is not laid correctly, it will start to sink after a few years. To prevent any future subsidence, Rhino ensures that the area to be paved is excavated and prepared professionally. Cutting no corners and exceeding industry standards is how Rhino delivers perfect drives time after time.
We use materials from several renowned suppliers including, Bradstone, Durapave, Marshall's, Plasmor and Wyresdale, or your choice of manufacturer, and offer a choice of different patterns for the layout of the blocks.
We excavate the area to a depth of 260mm, or more if necessary, in order to enable correct, solid installation, and dispose of all waste responsibly.
Rhino lays weed-block membranes under all installations to inhibit weed growth and help prevent the sub-base sinking into the sub-grade (ground below excavated area).
Although the industry standard for the depth of a sub-base, for laying flexible bock paving, is between 100 -140mm, our sub-bases are laid to a depth of at least 160mm, using clean crushed stone that is carefully compacted using a vibrating compaction plate and or double drum ride-on vibratory roller . The SUB-BASE is very important! Your drive will only be as good as the sub-base, if economies are made here the inevitable result will be a disaster.
We strongly believe that If a job's worth doing it's worth doing well! In several years time when your Rhino drive is still as solid and looks as attractive as the day it was completed you'll have no reservations about recommending us to friends and family - something you wouldn't be doing if you'd chosen a contractor who either didn't understand the importance of a sub-base or who understood, but quite simply didn't care as long as their profit margin was higher.
The recommended depth for a laying course (a layer of sand on which blocks are laid) is between 25-40mm. Rhino uses 40mm of grit sand that is compacted and screeded prior to final laying of the block paving.
Edging courses such as, road kerbs, plain or decorative edgings, small unit kerbs, or stone setts laid lengthways are the next step along with any necessary drainage. The kerbs must be laid on and haunched with concrete in order to prevent the drive slipping away into any landscaped or turfed areas.
Paving trays (covers that incorporate blocks) are used for all drains in order to maintain the block pattern chosen.
The newly laid drive is then brushed with kiln dried sand and given a final compacting. Then three months after completion our survey team give the installation a thourough inspection and top-up sand if necessary.
