Resin Bonded Aggregate
The Resin Bonded Aggregate system used by Rhino Paving utilises a coloured resin applied to Concrete, Tarmacadam, Wood or Metal to hold an aggregate in place. In appearance, it is like a loose aggregate but without the inconvenience of shifting stone. It is very durable and is suitable for driveways, patios, and paths.
Prior to application, a core sample is taken to verify that the surface to be coated is suitable for the intended use. We then ensure that all surfaces are clean and dry, to allow for maximum adhesion. If the resin is to be applied to a new surface, such as Tarmacadam or Concrete, we leave it to cure for a minimum of four weeks, as moisture or oils have an adverse effect on the resin. Newly laid concrete surfaces are abraded to remove any remaining laitance (the dusty material on the surface of new concrete), and Resin Bond PU Primer is applied at a rate of 1 kilogramme per 4-square metres. New Tarmacadam or Asphalt installations are sealed with Resin Bond Acrylic Mixture in order to seal the interstices between the stone, therefore stopping the resin draining away during application.
We then add a hardener to the resin and thoroughly mix using a drill and paddle mixer. The prepared resin is poured across the surface and spread with the aid of a serrated squeegee. As the serrations made by the squeegee start to fade from the resin we gently apply the chosen aggregate until the resin is totally saturated, if any resin bleeds through more aggregate is scattered onto these areas. The following day, any excess aggregate is swept off to reveal a finish, which has the appearance of loose aggregate, but it is now actually firmly stuck in place and has a virtually maintenance free lifespan of up to 15 years.
